Montessori at Home: Quiet & Cozy Spot

I'm a big advocate for this one.

While we do want to provide opportunities for children to be busy and engaged, they also need the option to do nothing. Kids need a little quiet space where there is no expectation for a particular activity.

You can combine this with a reading area, which is what I like to do, or it can be an area in a corner or by a window with a cozy rug or cushion. I've always loved using a small chair or a rocker in this spot.

This is a place for a child to just be. It's a little practice in self-regulation and balancing energy; we all sometimes need a place to just go and be quiet for a while.
